Summary

This grant opportunity is aimed at supporting non‐profit or fiscally sponsored organizations (those with 501(c)(3) status or foreign equivalents) that are involved in presenting, performing, or otherwise promoting contemporary concert music (work composed in roughly the last 50 years), especially by composers based in the U.S. The funds are intended to help sustain artistic excellence, expand access to contemporary works, and foster programs like performances, festivals, residencies, archiving, training, and presenting concerts.

The grant makes two types of support available: general operating support for organizations with a demonstrated ongoing commitment, and project‐based support for discrete initiatives beyond regular programming. Eligible organizations must have at least two years of relevant activity, show strong financials, and typically have budgets under a certain threshold (though exceptions are possible for particularly impactful projects). Individuals are not eligible unless working through a non‐profit or fiscal sponsor. For‐profit entities, amateur groups, educational institutions applying for student ensembles, or activities outside contemporary concert music are generally excluded.

Grant amounts generally fall between about $1,500 and $7,500, though larger awards may be made in special cases for especially significant projects. The grant is open to organizations across the United States, and even to groups outside the U.S. so long as the work is focused on American contemporary concert music.

Timing is organized in two cycles per year (“Spring” and “Fall”) with specified deadlines, and the eligible period for supported work spans roughly from autumn of one year through summer of the next. The review process places weight on artistic quality, organizational capacity, financial need, and the potential for the grant to meaningfully expand reach—especially into underserved or under‐represented communities.
